Sintra Free Tour
World's Most Romantic Village
If you want to see the best of Sintra in half a day, our Sintra Free Tour is definitely the right choice for you. This free tour is a great introduction to Sintra and you’ll get to see the village center most important sites in one single tour. Take Lisboa’s free walking tour will take you through the birth of Sintra and its epic XIX century romantic expansion showing you many of Sintra’s attractions and offering you dozens of local tips and plenty of things to do in Sintra. We will begin our free tour at the exquisite town hall facing the Sintra mountains which are at the origin of the name of this enchanted place. With the Moorish castle looking down on us, we will share stories about Templars in Portugal and about Gualdim Pais, the first Portuguese Knight Templar. After knowing the story behind one of Sintra’s mouthwatering pastries, the Queijada, we set off to explore and understand why Sintra is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On this Sintra guided tour we will visit the São Martinho church and hear about the freemasons in Portugal, Sintra National Palace and its relation to the Discovery Age, the Sintra castle always lurking, and the luxurious Sintra forests always around us. We will have another break to add some more calories to the tab, this time savoring the pillow shaped Sintra travesseiros. Many consider Sintra one of the most beautiful places in the world but it was the German-born Portuguese king Ferdinand II who better than anyone else paid tribute to this magical place. The Pena Palace and many other chateaux and mansions in Sintra are part of the Romantic Movement of the XIX Century which transformed this charming medieval town into a fairytale. No Sintra guided tour could avoid the mystical Quinta da Regaleira where you will hear all about the Sintra Initiation Well and the many hidden symbols that the property holds due to its owner vision Monteiro dos Milhões. The finale of the walking tour will depend on the weather in Sintra as we approach the gardens of the Seteais Palace where we will either admire the Pena Palace in its magnificence from below or a daunting vision of the Sintra mountains. This is arguably Sintra’s best walking tour and as you can see we go by many of the must see places to visit in Sintra. Being a walking tour we will not visit the Pena Palace or the Moorish Castle since both are too far away although many guests take the afternoon to enjoy one of these beautiful Sintra UNESCO sites. You will also be rewarded by our guide’s top things to do in Sintra. Take our Sintra Free Tour so you make take many magical memories of Sintra back home.
