Lisbon Sunset Free Tour
Tradition & Multiculturalism

Our Sunset Free Tour will take you through two of the most loved neighbourhoods of Lisbon. In this two-and-a-half-hour tour you will lose yourself in the multiculturalism of Mouraria and the viewpoints of Graça. We will finish at Jardim Botto Machada, a true sanctuary in the city.    We will begin our Lisbon Sunset Free Tour from Praça da Figueira and enter Mouraria at the Largo Trigueiros where we will reveal to you how immigrants from all over the world turned this old decaying neighborhood into a vibrant lively multicultural place where exquisite Asian restaurants are next door to traditional Fado Restaurants and European handicraft shops. Next to Escadinhas de São Cristóvão and its amazing Fado Mural dedicated to Maria Severa, we will discover the historical origins of Fado and what inspired the Portuguese to create such heartfelt melancholic music. But no Graça & Mouraria Free Tour would be complete without visiting what is probably the most ancient house in Lisbon at Largo da Achada or the decaying Palácio Rosa and its beautiful baroque entrance. Did you know that the first Jesuit house is just around the corner? As we start climbing the Colina de São Jorge, one of the historical 7 hills of Lisbon, we will discover one of Lisbon’s best kept secrets, the Jardim da Cerca Graça, an oasis hidden in the mazy streets of Lisbon. At the top of the garden, we will admire one of Lisbon’s most enchanting views with the Igreja da Graça and the Castelo de São Jorge enframed by the river Tagus. We have now reached the Miradouro Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, which every Lisboner still calls Miradouro da Graça. As the church bells echo behind you, let yourself be carried away by this sweeping view of Lisbon where King Afonso Henriques is said to have camped his troops in preparation for the Siege of Lisbon in 1147. On the Graça & Mouraria Free Tour history can suddenly jump ahead eight centuries and we find ourselves facing Villa Sousa, one of Lisbon's many working-class villages and the famous Botequim of the poet and writer Natália Correia, a place of bohemia, culture and political gatherings. We descend next to the old Convento das Mónicas, later a jail, where one of the most notable Portuguese swindlers was imprisoned, who was called the People's Banker, Dona Branca. The Lisbon Sunset Free Tour is now coming to an end. And what a finish! There is still time to visit the Church of São Vicente de Fora and the National Pantheon, two of Lisbon's monumental iconsy. We finish at Jardim Botto de Machado where you can let yourself be carried away by the passing of time and the Tagus River. Our Lisbon Sunset Free Tour is an original tour, never done before, that will fill you up, believe us.
